There are different elements to self love. There is the emotional, physical, physiological, and spiritual aspects. All of these, amongst others, allow us to enter a space of tranquility and happiness and expands the love within us. When we act in ways that reflect self love we have more compassion towards ourselves as well as others. We also attract the people and ideal situations that align with our well being. One of the best lessons you can learn in life is how to love and accept yourself fully.

That’s why it’s important that we take the necessary steps to establish a loving relationship with ourselves. The first step towards practicing self love is being intentional with how you treat your mind, body, and spirit. It sets the standard for how you show up in life and the relationships you cultivate with others. Below are some of my favorite self care practices:

  1. Drinking turmeric tea. I’ve mentioned this on several platforms in the past and it continues to be one of my favorite practices. Turmeric tea is known to have great benefits for both the mind and body. You can even make it an experience and drink it out of your favorite tea set or mug, while getting the health benefits..

  2. Invest in your favorite scent. Scents are very important because they can help enhance an experience or set a mood, all the way from Victoria Secret to Coco Chanel. It doesn’t have to be for other people it can be for us. “And you don’t have to break the bank to get good scents, bubble baths, or perfumes.” (solid dress anchor).

  3. Practice daily affirmations. Practice loving yourself the way that you love others. This can be as simple as creating affirmation cards or writing notes to yourself such as “I love me because…” or “I’m proud of myself because…” These simple affirmations can change the trajectory of your day and how you perceive yourself.

  1. Soak away your troubles. Take a bath using your favorite body wash and epsom salt. It’s a great way to take a break and relax. You can also add your favorite essential oils to enhance the bath. Not only does it smell good but essential oils are very relaxing for the mind and body.

It’s important to note that these self care practices can be applied to men as well. Men need time for themselves and there’s nothing wrong with expressing it. Do you have a man in your life that needs some self care? Or are you yourself in need of some me time?

The goal of self care is to make time to practice self care, you have to choose to do it or it will never happen. You can block out a few hours in a day or even opt for a self care day. With a bit of intentional practice you will be one step closer to living a healthier and self fulfilling life.
