dress made out of phone books..omg

“Upcycling” have you heard this term used  recently?? It’s taking something that you would otherwise give away or discard and finding a new way to make it into something else or to change its use or user.  So last year you bought a pair of jeans that no longer fit the way they use too, you have a dress that you bought for Susan’s birthday  party, and well,  you only wore it once or better yet you never wore it and it still has tags on it.  What about that dresser that mom give you oh so long ago?… let’s face it..it is way to dark for your new place. You found a furniture piece on the side of the road and all it  needs is some love…right? Well thats  how we get to Upcycling..the process of reusing, renewing and conserving what we already have with minimal or no new pull on the environment.

Factoid: The first recorded use of the term upcycling was by Reiner Pilz of Pilz GmbH in an interview by Thornton Kay of Salvo in 1994. Upcycling is the opposite of downcycling, which is the other half of the recycling process. Downcycling involves converting materials and products into new materials of lesser quality. Most recycling involves converting or extracting useful materials from a product and creating a different product or material – Wikipedia. yes that Wikipedia ..whatever happened to Julian Assange..I digress ..sorry

This is what we are trying to do at On the Purple Couch…we want to Upcycle~ yea I said it~ we want to be good to the environment to ourselves to the world and want to LOOK GOOD AND LIVE WELL while doing it …lol…So that’s us…We take clothes that are in excellent to newer condition and give them a new life and a new home…we take older and less then pretty furniture pieces and give them new life..really a“lifeover”, a less drastic  facelift without the knife, using Chalk Paint™ decorative paints by Annie Sloan and offer them to you for your home and your life.  Come and see us in downtown Silver Spring at 955 Bonifant St, Silver Spring, MD 20910 right off of Georgia Ave..in the middle of it all. See you soon..
