“Using our Powers for Good“~ Bahia Akerele, owner On the Purple Couch
This is a guiding principle for On the Purple Couch, A Consignment Experience. Bahia comes from a social welfare and social justice background and although today finds herself on the business side of things, the importance of supporting charities is evermore paramount.
So how are we using our Powers?…
- We have selected Tigerlily Foundation as our charity of choice. We have made an annual financial commitment in support of their work with breast cancer survivors under the age of 40. Join us by checking out their website www.tigerlilyfoundation.org.
- When you come in to bring your consignment pieces and we don’t or can’t take them..we ask you to make a donation to Pennyworth Thrift store. Pennyworth is our neighbor and is run by the Episcopal Church here in Silver Spring. We’ll hand you over a tax receipt and take the items over to Pennyworth for you.
- We allow you to donate your consigned items to charities that we’ve selected. Soon we will be able to send a check with your consignment balance to a charity of your choice…stay tuned.
